on Climate Change
Objectives of AGN

The group is primarily responsible for the development and negotiation of the African common position under the UNFCCC and its relevant subsidiaries and institutions.

The African Group further provides technical support to the African political level on climate change negotiations, and supports implementation of climate action in Africa.

The African group receives guidance from the African Ministerial Conference on Environment (AMCEN) and the Committee of Heads of State on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), and as such it is accountable to AMCEN and CAHOSCC.

The African Group is the sole representative of the African continent at the negotiators level of UNFCCC, any other Africa related groups shall function under guidance of the African Group and in full coordination with the African Group Chair.

The African Group common position is guided by an interest to have climate response that is equitable, reflective of political guidance, consistent with African sustainable development objectives, and in line with a common agreed vision by African countries, towards multilateral solutions to climate change.
